Anxiety is a feeling of unease such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe. This may be experienced at some point in one’s life, such as during exams, job interviews or medical examinations. However, if a person were to feel anxiety over a long period of time for a variety of situations or issues, it may be indicative of generalised anxiety disorder (GAD).
A person may have GAD if they felt worried about a number of events or activities, found it hard to stop worrying and found that their anxiety made it difficult for them to do everyday activities on more days than not for a period of at least six months. Due to this they may feel nervous, irritable or on edge, feel weak or tired, have a sense of impending danger, panic or doom, experience dizziness, heart palpitations, hyperventilation with sweating and/or trembling, have trouble sleeping, and experience gastrointestinal (GI) problems.
